How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Two-user real AWGN multiple-access channel and no-feedback code
Definition
Fix powers and noise variance . At use the real channel is where the noises are independent of the messages and of one another, each with Lebesgue density . The normalization is proved in step 1.1 below. A length- no-feedback code has independent uniform messages , separate deterministic encoders , and a Borel-measurable joint decoder , where the finite message sets have their discrete sigma-algebras. The encoders are measurable because their domains are finite. Write . Its average joint error is and its expected block-power constraints are , separately for . The rate is nats/use. Achievability means a sequence with error tending to zero and limiting lower rates at least the specified pair; the capacity region is the closure of all achievable pairs.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: , , independent finite uniform messages and fresh independent Gaussian noises.
Substitution: if is differentiable on with integrable and is continuous on an interval containing , then : for a differentiable substitution with integrable derivative and continuous integrand, the oriented integral changes by the derivative factor.
Square roots exist: a unique with ; the positives are : each nonnegative real has a unique nonnegative square root.
Tonelli's theorem for nonnegative measurable functions on a sigma-finite product: a nonnegative measurable function on a sigma-finite product has equal iterated and product integrals.
Proof
For each finite , apply [F2] on the bounded interval to the linear substitution . It gives As , the right side tends to by the improper-integral statement [F1]; hence the Gaussian density has total mass one.
Tonelli's theorem [F4] gives the product density total mass one; its coordinates are independent and have the required Gaussian law.
The finite message sets, deterministic encoders, Borel decoder and channel law define a joint distribution and a measurable decoder error event; the displayed expected costs and error probability are therefore well-defined, and the closure convention specifies the operational region.
Depends on
- The Gaussian integral $\int_{-\infty}^{\infty}e^{-x^2}\,dx=\sqrt{\pi}$
- Substitution: if $\varphi$ is differentiable on $[c,d]$ with $\varphi'$ integrable and $f$ is continuous on an interval containing $\varphi([c,d])$, then $\int_{\varphi(c)}^{\varphi(d)} f = \int_c^d (f\circ\varphi)\,\varphi'$
- Square roots exist: a unique $\sqrt{a} \ge 0$ with $(\sqrt{a})^2 = a$; the positives are $\{x^2 : x \neq 0\}$
- Tonelli's theorem for nonnegative measurable functions on a sigma-finite product

34 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
