How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Local response-surface models
Definition
Fix an integer and a declared factor region . A response-surface model on is a specified polynomial used as a local approximation to the mean response as the factors vary over . The region is part of the model contract. This definition does not assert that the physical response is polynomial, that the approximation is adequate, or that it remains valid outside .
A second-order response-surface model has the form where , , and is symmetric. Coordinates may be coded by a declared affine rescaling of the physical factor settings; all points and regions in a calculation use the same coding.
Remarks
The stationary-point and eigenvalue classification is proved in Stationary point and classification of a nonsingular quadratic response surface.
