How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Positional encodings and causal masks

Definition

For a sequence of length n with d-dimensional token representations, a positional encoding is a fixed or trainable matrix P∈Rn×d added rowwise to the token matrix X∈Rn×d, giving X+P. One fixed choice, with positions s∈N0 and coordinates indexed from 0, is Ps,2r=sin⁡(s/100002r/d) and Ps,2r+1=cos⁡(s/100002r/d) whenever the indicated coordinate is less than d.

For decoder self-attention on n positions indexed by 0,…,n−1, the causal mask is M∈(R∪{−∞})n×n with Mij=0 when j≤i and Mij=−∞ when j>i. Thus query position i can use keys at positions 0,…,i and cannot use a future position; every row has an allowed key because Mii=0.
