How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Scaled dot-product attention

Definition

Let nq,nk,dk,dv be positive integers, let Q∈Rnq×dk and K∈Rnk×dk be query and key matrices, and let V∈Rnk×dv be a value matrix. For a real matrix S with nq rows and nk columns, define its row softmax by softmax⁡row(S)ij=exp⁡(Sij)/∑ℓ=1nkexp⁡(Siℓ). The scaled dot-product attention output is

Attn⁡(Q,K,V)=softmax⁡row ⁣(QKTdk)V∈Rnq×dv.

Each output row is the weighted average of the value rows, with weights given by the softmax of that query's scaled dot products with all keys. A mask is an array M∈(R∪{−∞})nq×nk whose entries are 0 for allowed query-key pairs and −∞ for disallowed pairs; masked attention replaces the score matrix by QKT/dk+M before row softmax and is defined only when every row has at least one allowed key. Here exp⁡(−∞)=0.
