How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Canonical hash-bucket and nested skip-list storage
Definition
Let , , and with the injective value encoding in Element-distinctness Johnson walk and value access. Put , , , and , and assume . Fix as part of the representation a monic irreducible polynomial of degree over and its polynomial-basis field ; the storage is canonical relative to this fixed field representation and the hash seed. Choose independent uniform coefficient tuples in and use them as coefficients of degree-at-most- polynomials . For each , let be the field element whose -bit polynomial-basis coordinate string is the -bit binary encoding of ; these elements are distinct. Let be the integer represented by the low bits of , and let be the low bit of . The height of is the number of consecutive bits starting at , capped at ; equivalently, exactly when .
For a subset , the fixed memory word has hash buckets, each with slots, and one overflow bit. If no bucket exceeds capacity, every is stored in bucket ; occupied slots are sorted by index, and each record contains , , and its skip-list fields. A node identifier is the input index ; resolving it means computing and scanning that bucket. If any bucket would exceed capacity, set the overflow bit and put the same fixed sentinel in the data slots. Thus the represented word is a total, unique function of the subset and seed; the skip-list structure is valid exactly when the overflow bit is zero.
The storage also contains two nested skip lists, one in increasing index order and one in lexicographic order of . Level of either list, for , contains exactly the keys with height at least ; level contains all keys. Each forward pointer names a node identifier and stores its span, the difference between the source and target ranks in level (the head sentinel has rank ). These spans support rank and select operations. The two lists, bucket positions, pointers, and spans are the unique ones determined by ; they do not depend on the path used to reach . A capped search inspects at most forward entries at each level before raising an overrun flag. This definition specifies a finite representation and search convention; it does not assert a probability or cost bound.

21 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
