How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Element-distinctness Johnson walk and value access
Definition
Let , let be a finite nonempty value set, and let , where . A coherent value oracle is a supplied finite unitary with an explicitly specified injective encoding for some finite , and action on valid addresses and target strings, as in Coherent XOR function oracle. Injectivity ensures that stored encodings compare equal exactly when the underlying values do. Oracle-query cost and ordinary gate-occurrence cost are separate coordinates under Finite circuit resource accounting. The function table or name alone supplies no oracle circuit.
For and , the lazy Johnson walk has state space and transitions
with all other entries zero. Its marked vertices are
The stored data at are the labeled values . Preparing the uniform -subset state and loading these values has value-query cost , with subset preparation gates charged separately. A neighbor update erases the removed value and loads the added value, so its value-query cost is ; the XOR oracle is its own inverse. Checking whether the stored subset is marked uses no further value queries, so , but comparison gates and memory accesses are charged. After measuring a marked subset, scanning its stored values outputs a colliding pair with no additional value query; the scan's gate/time cost remains separate. For , use direct pairwise comparison rather than the -subset walk. The lower bound is essential: a one-element subset cannot contain a collision pair.

19 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
