How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Sample partial correlation by residualization

Definition

Let x(1),…,x(n)∈Rp be a sample, let i≠j, and let S⊆{1,…,p}∖{i,j}. Let xk∈Rn be the sample column for coordinate k, and let ΠS be the orthogonal projection onto the span of the all-ones vector and {xs:s∈S}. When the sample covariance matrix of coordinates {i,j}∪S is positive definite, define the residual columns Ri∣S=(I−ΠS)xi,Rj∣S=(I−ΠS)xj. The sample partial correlation is ρ^ij∣S=Ri∣STRj∣S∥Ri∣S∥2 ∥Rj∣S∥2. For −1<r<1, the Fisher transform is g(r)=12log⁡1+r1−r, and the sample Fisher statistic is Zij∣S=g(ρ^ij∣S). For a test using multiplier n−∣S∣−3, require n−∣S∣−3>0 so that this factor is positive. Under independent samples from a nondegenerate Gaussian law, the stated covariance block is positive definite almost surely whenever n−∣S∣−3>0.

Dependency tree · two levels

3 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
