How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Prior whitening turns an anisotropic Gaussian posterior into Tikhonov form
Example
Assume AC. Let , independently, , and observe in . Put and . The coordinate change makes the prior on standard Gaussian, and whitens the observation noise in that . The preconditioned Tikhonov objective is The posterior mean, MAP point, and minimizer in the original parameter coordinates are , and the posterior covariance is .

Verification
Given: The hypotheses and facts in the Example and Facts & Assumptions.
Here , so [F1] gives and .
The whitening matrices satisfy and , while . Applying [F3] with gives . Therefore . By [F2] this is the unique MAP, posterior mean, and support-restricted minimizer.
Depends on
- The Axiom of Choice
- Finite linear Gaussian inverse posterior with singular prior covariance
- Finite Gaussian MAP, posterior mean, and support-restricted Tikhonov minimizer coincide
- The Tikhonov regularised least-squares objective $\|Ax-b\|_2^2+\lambda\|x\|_2^2$ for $\lambda>0$
- For every $\lambda>0$, the Tikhonov objective is strictly convex and has the unique minimiser $(A^*A+\lambda I)^{-1}A^*b$

Dependency tree · two levels
20 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
