How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

A Taylor-Hood local pressure mode on a right triangle

Statement

On the reference right triangle K={(x,y):x≥0,y≥0,x+y≤1}, let q(x,y)=x−1/3 and v(x,y)=(x2,0). Then q has zero cell mean and the local Stokes pairing is −∫Kqdiv⁡v=−1/18. This is a local mode-detection calculation only; it proves no global Taylor–Hood stability theorem.

Facts & Assumptions

Given: The right triangle, the displayed local polynomials, and bK(v,q):=−∫Kqdiv⁡v.

Example

The pressure has zero cell mean and its local Stokes pairing is computed exactly.

Verification

technique · direct integration

The triangle area is 1/2, and ∫Kx=∫01x(1−x)dx=1/6, so ∫Kq=1/6−(1/3)(1/2)=0. Also div⁡v=2x.

Direct integration gives ∫Kx2=∫01x2(1−x)dx=1/12; hence bK(v,q)=−2(∫Kx2−13∫Kx)=−2(112−118)=−118. This nonzero local pairing detects that polynomial pressure mode against this polynomial velocity; no boundary condition or global mesh stability is asserted.
