How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

An NTK eigenmode decays exponentially under least squares

Example

Assume AC. Fix N,n0≥1, a depth L≥2, a bias scale β>0, and a globally Lipschitz nonpolynomial activation σ:R→R. Use the source-normalized network with scalar output and independent standard-normal initialization, and let x1,…,xN be pairwise distinct points of Sn0−1={x∈Rn0:∥x∥2=1}. Let K∞ be the limiting neural tangent Gram matrix on these inputs given by the sequential infinite-width theorem. Choose a unit eigenvector v∈RN of K∞ with eigenvalue λ>0. For labels y∈RN and a≠0, initialize the limiting empirical least-squares kernel flow by f0=y+av and solve

f˙(t)=−1NK∞(f(t)−y).

Then f(t)=y+ae−tλ/Nv. The error stays entirely in this one kernel mode, and its Euclidean norm decays by the factor e−tλ/N.

Facts & Assumptions

Given: AC; the source-normalized scalar-output model; N,n0≥1, L≥2, β>0, a globally Lipschitz nonpolynomial activation; pairwise distinct unit-sphere inputs; a unit eigenvector v of their sequential limiting Gram matrix with eigenvalue λ>0; target vector y; and initial prediction f0=y+av with a≠0.

[F1]

Distinct sphere inputs under the proposition's assumptions have a positive-definite limiting NTK Gram matrix (The limiting neural tangent kernel is strictly positive definite on every unit sphere).

[F2]

Least-squares kernel flow multiplies an eigenmode residual by e−tλ/N (Least-squares NTK flow decays mode by mode and fits distinct sphere data).

Verification

technique · substitute the single-mode initial residual into the exact eigenmode formula
1.1F1F2givenalgebra

The initial residual is f0−y=av. Since v is a unit eigenvector with eigenvalue λ>0, [F2] gives f(t)−y=ae−tλ/Nv.

2.1F2step 1.1algebra∎

Taking norms and using ∥v∥2=1 yields ∥f(t)−y∥2=∣a∣e−tλ/N, which tends to zero because λ/N>0. This is the single positive mode asserted in the Example.

20 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
