How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
CSS encoding from nested binary codes
Example
Let , , and . A generator matrix for has columns , and a parity-check matrix has rows . The CSS code has and encoded states
The X checks are generated by and the Z checks by . Logical operators can be chosen as and . This example has .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The binary dot product, the nested-code CSS convention, and the displayed generators and parity checks.
CSS encoding dimension and commutation: encodes qubits, and checks from commute with checks from .
Bilinear dual of a finite-field linear code: consists of vectors having dot product zero with every vector of .
Stabilizer syndromes and logical Pauli operators: normalizer classes outside scalar phases and stabilizers act as nontrivial logical Paulis.
Verification
The displayed generator rows of are independent, and the single generator of is nonzero and lies in . Thus , , , and the two displayed cosets are and . Their supports are disjoint, so [F1] gives the orthonormal logical basis shown.
A vector lies in exactly when and . These equations are equivalent to and , so . Both generators have even dot product with , so the X and Z checks commute. The vector has even weight and hence lies in , but it is not one of , so it is not in . This verifies .
Translation by exchanges the two displayed logical coset states, so acts as logical bit flip. The phase is for and for , so acts as logical phase flip. Their dot product is in , hence the logical operators anticommute.

Dependency tree · two levels
19 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
