How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Boundary tori inject into the circle-bundle group
Statement
Let be either a pair of pants or a once-punctured Möbius band, and let be a circle bundle whose total space is orientable. For each boundary torus of , the inclusion induces an injective homomorphism .

Facts & Assumptions
Given: A circle bundle over a pair of pants or once-punctured Möbius band, with orientable total space, and a boundary torus of .
A Seifert fibration is locally a circle bundle away from exceptional fibers (Incompressibility, Seifert fibrations, and JSJ systems, Definition).
A fibration has the long exact sequence of homotopy groups, so when the fiber group injects into the total-space group and its image is the kernel of projection (Long exact sequence of homotopy groups of a fibration, Statement).
Proof
Each of the two possible bases has nonempty boundary and deformation-retracts to a graph, so . The homotopy exact sequence [F2] therefore injects the fiber subgroup into , with image the kernel of .
The fundamental group of a pair of pants is free on two generators , and its three boundary loops represent , , and , each of infinite order. The once-punctured Möbius band has free generators and boundary loops represented by and ; both are nontrivial cyclically reduced words and have infinite order in the free group. Thus every boundary circle of injects on fundamental groups.
The restriction is a circle bundle over a circle, hence induces a surjection . If maps trivially to , its projection is a power of the corresponding boundary loop and is trivial in ; step 1.2 forces that power to be zero. Therefore lies in the fiber subgroup, whose inclusion into is injective by step 1.1, so . This proves that is injective.

10 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
