How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

A convex mixture of probability laws is a probability law

Statement

Let (X,A) be a measurable space, let P,Q be probability measures on it, and let t∈[0,1]. The set function Mt(A)=(1−t)P(A)+tQ(A) is a probability measure.

Facts & Assumptions

Given: A measurable space (X,A), probability measures P,Q on it, and t∈[0,1].

[F1]

Probability measures and probability spaces: a probability measure is a measure of total mass one.

Proof

1.1givenF1algebra

For each A∈A, both terms in Mt(A) are nonnegative and finite. Also Mt(∅)=0 and Mt(X)=(1−t)+t=1, using [F1].

2.1givenF1step 1.1algebra∎

If (Aj)j≥1 are pairwise disjoint, countable additivity of P,Q gives Mt(⋃jAj)=(1−t)∑jP(Aj)+t∑jQ(Aj)=∑jMt(Aj). Together with step 1.1, this is a probability measure.

3 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
