How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The perturbed-observation EnKF update preserves exchangeability
Statement
Fix the perturbed-observation update of Perturbed-observation ensemble Kalman filter. A row of random inputs is exchangeable if its joint law is invariant under every common permutation of the member indices. If the forecast states, forecast errors, observation perturbations, and any reference-member variables form an exchangeable input row, then the updated states together with those reference variables are exchangeable.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The inputs, maps, and update rule in the Statement.
The input row's joint law is invariant under common index permutations.
The algorithm forms member predictions, empirical means and covariance blocks, one common gain from those empirical covariance blocks, and then updates each member using its own perturbed datum. Perturbed-observation ensemble Kalman filter
Proof
Given: The hypotheses in the Statement.
Fix a permutation of . Applying it to the input states and errors permutes the forecast states and predicted observations by the same . Their empirical means are unchanged, while the sums defining and are unchanged because they only reorder their summands. Therefore and the common gain are unchanged.
With the same , the update at permuted index is exactly the original updated state at index , since its datum perturbation and reference variable are permuted along with that member. Thus the full updated tuple under is a permutation of the original updated tuple. Its law is unchanged by [A1], which is joint exchangeability.

Dependency tree · two levels
5 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
