How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
A full-rank unimodular sublattice has index one
Statement
Let , let be a free abelian group of rank with an integer-valued symmetric bilinear form whose Gram determinant is or , and let be an isometric homomorphism, where has its standard dot product. Then .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: A rank- free abelian group , a unimodular integral symmetric form on , and an isometric homomorphism to the standard dot-product lattice .
The stated Gram determinant has absolute value one; the argument is finite integral linear algebra and uses no choice axiom.
If has nonzero determinant, then the subgroup has index in . The index of a full-rank subgroup of is the absolute determinant of a generating matrix
Proof
Choose an integral basis of and let be the integer matrix whose columns are the images of that basis under . Since is isometric, the Gram matrix of is .
Taking determinants gives , hence or .
By [F1] and step 2.1, the image subgroup has index in . The quotient therefore has one element, which means and .

14 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
