How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Product additivity of coherent and private information
Statement
Let be finite-dimensional channels. For input states ,
For finite ensembles , their product ensemble satisfies
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The two finite-dimensional channels, input states, and finite ensembles in the Statement.
Complementary channels and coherent information and Coherent information equals output entropy minus environment entropy: coherent information for a fixed complement is .
Private information of a finite channel ensemble: private information is the receiver Holevo quantity minus the complementary-output Holevo quantity.
Complex spectral theorem: a normal endomorphism of a finite-dimensional complex inner product space has an orthonormal eigenbasis, and conversely: every finite-dimensional density operator has a finite orthonormal eigenbasis.
Proof
Let and be density operators with positive eigenvalues and , respectively. By [F3], the product eigenvectors form an orthonormal eigenbasis of with eigenvalues ; zero eigenvalues contribute zero. Expanding the entropy sum and using [F4], , gives .
Choose purifications of . Their product purifies . The joint output-reference states under the tensor-product channels and the complementary outputs under the product dilations are products. Applying step 1.1 to both entropy terms in [F1] proves the coherent-information equality.
The product ensemble has probabilities and product receiver and environment output states. Its average receiver and environment states are the corresponding products of the two ensemble averages. Apply step 1.1 to each average and each positive-probability conditional state. Substitution into the two Holevo differences in [F2] separates the finite double sums into the two one-ensemble private-information terms, proving the second equality.

38 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
