How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Flatness of the KZ connection and braid relations
Statement
For every integer , let be the space of ordered -tuples of pairwise distinct complex points, and let and be as defined for parenthesized braids. Write for the positive geometric half twist interchanging adjacent strands and in a disk containing no other strand. The Knizhnik–Zamolodchikov form satisfies and . Consequently the degreewise iterated-integral holonomy depends only on the homotopy class of a path with fixed endpoints. On geometric braids this holonomy respects the distant commutation relations for and the adjacent braid relations .

Facts & Assumptions
Given: An integer , the configuration space , the completed strand algebra with its infinitesimal braid relations, and the KZ form .
The Kontsevich integral on parenthesized braids: the strand algebra is degreewise completed, is generated by , and satisfies for distinct indices and for distinct ; the KZ form is the displayed logarithmic connection.
Framed chord diagrams and four-term relations: a 4T relation is the alternating four-diagram relation obtained by moving one endpoint past either endpoint of a fixed chord; the framed diagram quotient imposes 4T and does not impose 1T.
Singular knots and Vassiliev derivatives: the positive and negative resolutions of a transverse crossing are labelled by the determinant crossing sign, and the positive Artin half twist is positive.
Proof
Given: As above; no choice axiom is assumed.
Proof technique: All power-series operations are performed after truncation at a fixed degree . In that finite-dimensional quotient, only finitely many iterated integrals occur; the compatible truncations define the completed holonomy.
Put . Since is nonzero on , in local coordinates and by equality of mixed partial derivatives. Thus .
Write , for two distinct chord generators. In the expansion of , the two ordered terms for these generators combine as . If the pairs have four distinct indices, by [F1]; if they are the same pair, . Hence only pairs of generators supported on a common triple of strands can contribute.
Fix and put , , , , , and . The tangled 4T relation on these three strands is exactly the pair of infinitesimal braid relations and . The contribution of this triple is . The infinitesimal braid relations in [F1] give and , so this is . With and , we have , , and . Direct expansion gives , which is equivalent to . Thus every triple contribution vanishes.
The repeated-pair, disjoint-pair, and three-index cases exhaust the expansion of ; steps 2.1–3.1 show that each contribution is zero. Together with step 1.1 this gives and .
Fix a smooth path and let solve , , where . In each degree this is a finite linear ODE system, solved recursively by the iterated-integral formula. For a homotopy with fixed endpoints, set and . Differentiating and using gives . The coefficient in parentheses is the evaluation of the flatness expression from step 4.1, so it is zero. Since the initial endpoint is fixed, and hence ; at the fixed terminal endpoint , so . The holonomy is therefore constant throughout the homotopy.
The KZ form is unchanged by relabeling the strands, since its sum runs over every unordered pair; endpoint strand permutations therefore act on holonomy by the same permutation of the . For , the paths for and lie in disjoint two-point disks, so exchanging their time intervals is a fixed-endpoint homotopy and step 5.1 gives . For three adjacent points, start at and follow the configuration path , . Its endpoints agree as unordered configurations with the three points reversed, and its pairwise distances stay bounded below by . At the three real projections coincide. Small perturbations of the trajectories therefore remain collision-free and can separate the three projected crossing times in either of the two orders; both perturbed paths are homotopic to this rigid half-turn and give respectively and . By step 5.1 their transports agree.
