How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The orthant logarithmic barrier has parameter equal to its dimension
Statement
For , let , , and . Under the standard Euclidean pairing, . The function is an -log-homogeneous self-concordant barrier on and for every .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The local norm and self-concordant barrier convention of Self-concordant log-homogeneous barriers and their local geometry.
For the Euclidean norm, Cauchy–Schwarz gives (Cauchy-Schwarz with its equality case, the triangle inequality for , the parallelogram law and polarisation).
The dual cone is (Conic, LP, and convex QP primal-dual models).
Proof
Coordinatewise inequalities show that is closed, convex, and closed under addition and nonnegative scaling. If both and lie in , every coordinate is zero, so is pointed; because , is nonempty and is the interior of . If , then for every , so by [F2]. Conversely, if , testing against each standard basis vector gives . Hence and .
Direct differentiation gives , , and . The Hessian is positive definite because for . If , then each , hence and the Dikin inclusion holds. If a sequence in approaches a finite boundary point, at least one coordinate tends to zero while all coordinates remain bounded above; each term is bounded below and one tends to , so .
Put and . By [F1] and , . Also , and . These are exactly the required self-concordance and parameter conditions.
Depends on
- Self-concordant log-homogeneous barriers and their local geometry
- Conic, LP, and convex QP primal-dual models
- Cauchy-Schwarz $\lvert\langle x,y\rangle\rvert \le \lVert x\rVert_2\lVert y\rVert_2$ with its equality case, the triangle inequality for $\lVert\cdot\rVert_2$, the parallelogram law and polarisation

Dependency tree · two levels
17 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
