How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The permutation average is the symmetric-subspace projector
Statement
Let be finite-dimensional and let . The average is self-adjoint and idempotent, with range exactly . For on the tensor unit, and its range is the full tensor unit.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: A finite-dimensional complex Hilbert space , an integer , and the tensor-factor permutation representation .
Ordered tensor registers, their inner product, and wire permutations defines each factor permutation by reordering the product basis. In equal factors this is a basis permutation, hence unitary; under the stated output-order convention, and for ordinary right-to-left composition of permutations.
is the finite group of permutations of a -element set, with elements. Inversion and left or right multiplication by a fixed element are bijections; for each , exactly pairs satisfy , since every determines the unique .
Proof
For , by [L1] and reindexing by inversion. Also using [F1]. Thus is an orthogonal projection.
For every , by [L1] and reindexing by right multiplication. Hence every vector in is invariant. Conversely, if for all , then . Therefore .
For , has one element and the defining empty tensor power is the one-dimensional tensor unit, so the stated average is and its range is the whole space.

Dependency tree · two levels
13 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
