How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Phase-aware tableau updates for Clifford generators
Statement
Write a Hermitian row as , with . In this lemma's formulas, label coordinates are numbered by Pauli wires in tensor order: the coordinate denoted (respectively ) here is the coordinate denoted (respectively ) in Phase-aware stabilizer tableau. This reindexing changes no operator or phase. For wire with , conjugation by , , and updates the row by, respectively,
For distinct wires , updates , , with all other label coordinates and unchanged. Applying these conjugations to every row preserves the generator tableau and, when present, the extended pairing invariant.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: A valid phase-aware tableau on wires, an index for a one-qubit gate, or distinct indices for .
Phase-aware stabilizer tableau: a row represents and commutation is recorded by . Its zero-based label coordinates are reindexed in tensor order by the one-based wire names used in this lemma.
Hadamard pauli action and Phase gate pauli action: the exact and conjugation updates are the corresponding formulas in the Statement.
Exact one-qubit gates and rotations: are unitary.
CNOT Pauli action: CNOT is unitary and conjugates to , respectively.
Binary symplectic form: over .
Proof
Given: The data in the Statement.
For , [A1] gives the exact coordinate swap and phase . For , and give the stated shear and phase increment. The second identity and unitarity give . Then , so it follows that ; hence the inverse shear decrements the phase by . All other tensor factors are unchanged.
For CNOT, conjugation sends , , , and by [F3]. The image of the ordered part is a product of factors and the image of is a product of factors; the order is retained, so no crosses a and is unchanged. This gives the stated toggles.
For , swapping in both labels leaves their contribution unchanged. For , replacing by adds . For CNOT, the control and target contributions change by, respectively, and , whose sum is zero in . Thus each update preserves the displayed form [F4] and all row pairings.
Each label update is invertible (the H swap is its own inverse and the S and CNOT shears are invertible over ); conjugation also preserves Hermiticity and fixes . Consequently row independence, commutation, exclusion of , and every extended pairing remain valid.

The one- and two-qubit Pauli conjugation tables appear in de Wolf §20.2, PDF pp. 186–187, and Aaronson–Gottesman §III, PDF pp. 4–5. The actual H, S, CNOT, and binary symplectic-form supplier bodies are present in batch 15 and are cited above; they remain draft, not accepted.

33 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
