How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The reverse-mirror Seifert matrix is the negative original
Statement
Assume the full Axiom of Choice. Let be a smooth oriented knot with a Seifert surface and ordered integral basis , using for the positive-push Seifert matrix. Let be the reverse mirror defined by the fixed orientation-reversing reflection followed by reversal of the knot orientation, and use the image basis on the reflected surface. The Seifert matrix of in that basis is .

Facts & Assumptions
Given: Full AC, the oriented surface, and the ordered basis from the statement.
The Axiom of Choice: AC is the choice-function axiom used by the Seifert-pairing interface.
Seifert pairing and matrix of an oriented knot: The matrix entry is , where the positive normal is determined by the ambient and surface orientations.
Reverse mirror of an oriented knot: The reverse mirror applies the fixed orientation-reversing reflection and reverses the knot orientation.
Proof
Give the reflected surface its transported orientation. Its boundary is with the transported knot orientation. Therefore the Seifert surface for the specified reverse mirror is , with the opposite surface orientation. Let be a positive tangent frame of and let be its positive normal, so is ambient-positive by [F1]. A positive tangent frame for is : reversing exactly one tangent reverses the surface orientation. Since reverses ambient orientation, the frame is ambient-positive. Consequently the positive normal of is , and the positive push of the image basis curve is precisely . This computation includes both orientation reversals; reversing both tangent vectors instead would preserve the surface orientation.
Reflection negates linking. Indeed an oriented normal disk to an oriented curve is positive when its disk orientation follows the tangent of in the ambient orientation. The reflected disk has the opposite normal-disk orientation relative to , since reverses the ambient orientation. Thus takes the positive meridian class to minus the positive meridian class, and taking meridian coefficients in the complement gives . Using the actual positive pushes from step 1.1, the image-basis entries are therefore . This proves the matrix is , including the empty matrix in genus zero.
Remarks
Reflection alone, without reversal of the knot and spanning-surface orientations, takes the positive normal to the reflected negative normal and gives the negative transpose. The reverse mirror in the fixed definition includes that additional orientation reversal and gives the negative original matrix in the transported basis. Arbitrary changes of basis remain ordinary unimodular congruences.

The panels label tangent frames; the normal is drawn out of the page as . Take the orientation-reversing reflection . The right frame reverses exactly one transported tangent vector and has positive normal , as proved above.

15 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
