How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The simplicial boundary of a boundary is zero
Statement
For every , the boundary maps of Oriented simplicial cell chains and boundary satisfy
Facts & Assumptions
Given: An oriented simplicial mesh and its alternating boundary maps.
An oriented generator has boundary , extended linearly. (Oriented simplicial cell chains and boundary)
Proof
If , then by the definition, so the double boundary vanishes. Now let and fix an oriented generator . In , a codimension-two face is obtained by deleting a unique pair of vertices with indices . Deleting first contributes coefficient because the original index shifts down by one; deleting first contributes .
The sum of those two coefficients is . Every codimension-two face arises from exactly these two deletion orders, so every basis coefficient in the double boundary is zero. The double boundary therefore vanishes on each generator and, by linearity, on all of .

2 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
