How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Facts & Assumptions
Given: Full AC, a smooth proper slice disk for , and a prime-power cover degree .
Full AC is assumed wherever the cover and orientation conventions use the choice axiom. The Axiom of Choice
The branched cover has boundary by the disk-cover convention, and it is a compact connected rational homology ball for prime-power . Cyclic branched cover of a smooth proper disk A prime-power branched cover of a smooth proper disk is a rational homology ball
For any compact connected oriented rational homology ball with connected boundary, the kernel of boundary inclusion on is a metabolizer for the boundary linking form. The boundary kernel of a rational homology ball is a linking metabolizer
The linking form on the finite first homology of a rational homology sphere is symmetric and nonsingular. The torsion linking pairing of a rational homology sphere is nonsingular
A smooth knot is smoothly slice when it bounds a smooth properly embedded disk in . Smooth and topological slice genus
A metabolizer is a subgroup equal to its orthogonal complement for the finite nonsingular linking form. Finite nonsingular linking forms and metabolizers
Proof
By [F1], the boundary of is the rational homology sphere , and both are compact connected oriented manifolds with the required boundary identification. The kernel of its boundary inclusion is exactly the subgroup displayed in the statement.
Apply [F2] to and its boundary. The kernel identified in step 1.1 is self-annihilating for the boundary linking form; [F3] supplies nonsingularity and [F5] the metabolizer convention. Therefore is a metabolizer.

An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
