How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Tensor Q1 nodal interpolation has a first-order H1 error bound
Statement
Let and let the unit cube be partitioned into uniform tensor cells of side length . Let have Lipschitz gradient with constant , meaning for all . Let be the continuous tensor-product, degree-one nodal interpolant matching at every grid vertex. Then lies in the tensor-product degree-one spline space and
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The unit tensor grid, and its Lipschitz-gradient constant, and the nodal interpolant described in the Statement.
B-spline spaces and knot conventions defines degree-one tensor spline factors, and B-spline basis properties and polynomial reproduction gives their piecewise polynomial, continuity, partition and polynomial reproduction properties. On each cell, the tensor nodal shape functions are the products of the two endpoint linear factors in each coordinate; products of the one-dimensional partition/reproduction identities give and for each coordinate . Hence they reproduce every affine function.
For a function with -Lipschitz gradient, integration along the line segment from to gives
Proof
Fix a cell and one vertex . Put and . The cell diameter is , so [F2] gives on and . The tensor Q1 interpolant reproduces , hence .
Let be the tensor nodal shape functions. They satisfy , , and . Thus and Combining these with step 1.1 yields and .
Adjacent cells use the same vertex values, so their local interpolants agree on their common faces; consequently is continuous and belongs to the tensor degree-one spline space defined by [F1]. Square the pointwise bounds of step 2.1, integrate on each cell, and sum over the unit-volume partition. The resulting global errors are at most and for value and gradient. Since , the Euclidean combination defining the norm is at most their sum, which is bounded by .

2 results within one dependency step of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
