How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
B-spline spaces and knot conventions
Definition
Let , , and . A clamped knot vector is a nondecreasing finite sequence with for every . Empty interior ranges are omitted. The multiplicity of an interior knot is its number of occurrences among .
Write for the real polynomials of degree at most . The degree- spline space consists of functions that restrict to a member of on each nonempty knot interval and whose derivatives through order agree across each interior knot . The convention means that no matching condition is imposed. For this piecewise definition, take knot cells left-closed and right-open; at a knot with no matching condition, the value is the one from the cell on its right, and at use the left limit. Thus the function value at a discontinuous knot is specified.
For each degree , the functions are indexed by . Set For and , define recursively where a term with zero denominator is defined to be zero. For every degree and every allowed index , set equal to its left limit. In particular, the degree- family has indices . Its basis and regularity properties are proved in B-spline basis properties and polynomial reproduction ↗.
