How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Tensor-product NURBS patch maps and rational spline spaces
Definition
Let and let the reference patch be . For each coordinate , fix a degree , a finite clamped knot vector on , and its one-dimensional B-spline basis from B-spline spaces and knot conventions. For a multi-index in the finite product index set , define the tensor-product basis function
Choose finitely many control points and positive weights , and write . The weight denominator, rational basis, and associated rational spline space are
The corresponding NURBS geometry map is
Equivalently, let and let for . Then wherever .
The basis properties in B-spline basis properties and polynomial reproduction give nonnegative tensor factors summing to one. Consequently the weights' convex combination satisfies ; the later item lem-positive-nurbs-basis-and-quotient-derivative records the full rational-basis consequences.
An admissible NURBS patch map is a continuous, globally injective, bi-Lipschitz map whose restriction to every nonempty knot cell is a diffeomorphism onto its image. There are constants and such that, almost everywhere on every cell, The physical image is required to be a bounded Lipschitz domain. The images of the finite knot cells form a face-to-face partition with the piecewise boundary presentation of Specified finite piecewise C1 boundary presentations; the map agrees on each shared cell face.
A finite multipatch geometry consists of finitely many such patch maps with disjoint physical interiors, a connected bounded Lipschitz union, and matching full physical faces wherever two patches meet. Positive weights only define a positive denominator and a convex rational basis; they do not assert global injectivity, positive Jacobian, or interface matching. Exact NURBS representation means exact representation of the specified CAD map and does not assert that this map is the exact geometry of a target physical domain.

An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
