How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
FETI-DP is the exact dual Schur system
Statement
Let and set . The constrained minimization problem
has the saddle equations , . Eliminating gives the FETI-DP dual system
On its matrix is positive definite, and the exact multiplier solution reconstructs the unique assembled interface solution .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: is positive definite on , is onto with , and is the projection used by BDDC.
FETI-DP dual system and preconditioner: and the multiplier space is .
Primal interface spaces and jump convention: and redundant multiplier rows are represented by their range.
Primal constraints remove local floating kernels: all subdomain vertices primal and a nonempty global Dirichlet boundary suffice for positive definiteness of . Here positive definiteness is an explicit hypothesis, also for other primal choices.
Proof
The Lagrangian is . Its derivative in arbitrary is , and its multiplier derivative is . Setting both derivatives to zero gives the displayed saddle equations.
By the assumed positive definiteness of , the first equation has the unique solution . Substitution into gives the displayed dual system.
If and , write using [F2]. Then , hence . Thus is injective on , and for every nonzero . The exact solution satisfies , so by [F2] it lies in and solves the assembled variational problem.

Dependency tree · two levels
7 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
