How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The sectional forward-Euler step is positive and conserves augmented mass
Statement
For a nonnegative finite sectional state, if for every bin, the successful step of Forward Euler for a finite sectional balance with a positivity CFL has , , and
Facts & Assumptions
Given: A valid grid state , a step , and the CFL inequalities in the Statement.
Forward Euler for a finite sectional balance with a positivity CFL: the update is and .
Finite sectional event dynamics preserve positivity and retained-plus-reservoir mass: the augmented mass is conserved along the event ODE.
Finite sectional coagulation-fragmentation balance with reported overflow: each ordered pair has rate and removes both parents; fragmentation removes its parent at rate ; retained gains are nonnegative, and overflow adds its consumed mass to .
Proof
For each bin, write , where is the total birth rate. This is the event decomposition of [F3]: the total aggregation loss of parent is under the ordered-pair convention, and its fragmentation loss is . Thus by the CFL condition.
By [F3], the reservoir update adds times a nonnegative overflow-mass rate, so . By [F2], the mass derivative at every nonnegative initial state is zero, so the vector-field increment has zero augmented mass; multiplying by and adding the unchanged initial mass proves the displayed identity.
