How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Weighted prox-error summability preserves an O(1/k^2) FISTA bound

Statement

Under the certified inexact FISTA model of Certified inexact proximal-gradient and FISTA updates, suppose F=f+g has a minimizer x∗. For each k≥1, F(xk)−F(x∗)≤2L(k+1)2(∥x0−x∗∥22+2L∑j=1kj2ηj). In particular, weighted summability ∑j≥1j2ηj<∞ preserves an O(1/k2) objective bound under this certificate model.

Facts & Assumptions

Given: The certified inexact FISTA sequence, its errors, and a minimizer.

[F1]

FISTA energy recurrence with certified proximal errors: the potential after k calls is at most ∥x0−x∗∥22+(2/L)∑j=1ktj2ηj.

[F2]

Certified inexact proximal-gradient and FISTA updates: t1=1 and tj+1=(1+1+4tj2)/2.

Proof

1.1F1givenalgebra

Sum the recurrence [F1] through step k and discard the nonnegative squared potential. This gives F(xk)−F(x∗)≤L2tk2(∥x0−x∗∥22+2L∑j=1ktj2ηj).

2.1F2step 1.1giveninductionalgebra∎

Since 1+4tj2≤2tj+1 for tj≥0, [F2] gives tj+1≤tj+1 and induction yields tj≤j. The lower bound 1+4tj2≥2tj gives tk≥(k+1)/2. Therefore tj2ηj≤j2ηj and 1/(2tk2)≤2/(k+1)2; substitution into step 1.1 proves the displayed estimate.

An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
