How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
betti numbers of a finite local module
Definition
Assume the Axiom of Choice. Let be a finite module over a nonzero Noetherian local ring , and choose a minimal degreewise finite free resolution , which exists under this assumption. For , its Betti number is The first dimension is finite because each is a finite-dimensional -vector space. The value does not depend on the chosen resolution: choice supplies dependent choice by selecting a successor from each nonempty successor set and recursively iterating that selection, and the Tor comparison for supplied resolutions then identifies their homology. Whenever a minimal Koszul resolution exists, the rank formula identifies these numbers with its Koszul Betti numbers. For all Betti numbers are zero.
