How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Locally finite counting measures and vague topology
Definition
Fix . Let be the -algebra generated by the Euclidean open sets, and understand all measures below as defined on . A measure here is a countably additive map from to that assigns to the empty set. A locally finite counting measure on is a measure of the form , where is finite or countable, repetitions among the points are allowed, and every compact set contains only finitely many listed points, counting repetitions. The empty sum is allowed and is the zero measure. For a Borel set , is the number of listed points in , with multiplicity. Write for the set of these measures. For , the point mass assigns mass to a Borel set containing and mass otherwise.
For any continuous compactly supported and , define , where is the closure of . This sum is finite by local finiteness, counts multiplicities, and is independent of the listing because fixes the multiplicity at every point. For the zero measure it is .
The vague topology on is the coarsest topology for which is continuous for every nonnegative continuous compactly supported function . Thus exactly when for every such .
Given a probability space , meaning that is a -algebra on and is a countably additive probability measure on with , a random locally finite counting measure is an -measurable map , where . We require that, for every bounded Borel set , the evaluation given by is -measurable; it is finite by local finiteness. Write for integration with respect to . A sequence of such measures on a common probability space uses this same domain and target for every . If is compact, its local counts are uniformly integrable on when
This is the count-tail condition used when an argument needs control of unbounded observables supported in . The definition asserts no convergence of expectations without the exact test-function, support, and tail hypotheses of the result being applied.

Remarks
This measure-space topology is distinct from finite-spin product topology and cylinder convergence. Vague convergence tests compactly supported spatial functions and can lose mass at infinity; weak convergence of probability measures cannot be inferred from it without an additional tightness condition.
