How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Statistical states, densities, observables and expectations

Definition

Let (ΓN,FN,mN) be a sigma-finite phase-reference measure space from Classical configuration, cotangent phase and reference measures; the cotangent construction uses the stated Axiom of Countable Choice (The Axiom of Countable Choice (ACω)). A statistical state is a probability measure P on (ΓN,FN), meaning a countably additive measure with P(ΓN)=1 (Measures on sigma-algebras). A density of P relative to mN is a measurable ρ:ΓN→[0,∞] such that P(A)=∫Aρ dmN(A∈FN),∫ΓNρ dmN=1. Equivalently, P=ρ mN in the definition of a measure with density (The measure with density f relative to μ); integration against that density has the meaning supplied by Integrating against a density agrees with integrating the product. A state need not have a density.

An observable is a real-valued measurable function A:ΓN→R (Extended-real-valued measurable functions). Its expectation ⟨A⟩P:=∫A dP is used only when A is integrable, that is, ∫∣A∣ dP<∞ (Integrable real and complex functions, and their integrals). Its variance is Var⁡P(A):=∫(A−⟨A⟩P)2 dP when A2 is integrable. For square-integrable A,B, their covariance is Cov⁡P(A,B):=∫(A−⟨A⟩P)(B−⟨B⟩P) dP. These expressions are finite under the stated square-integrability hypotheses. Indeed, P(ΓN)=1 makes 1∈L2(P) with norm 1. By Cauchy-Schwarz inequality for L2, ∫∣A∣ dP≤(∫A2 dP)1/2, so the mean of a square-integrable observable exists. If a=⟨A⟩P, then ∣A−a∣2≤2A2+2a2 makes A−a square-integrable; the same argument applies to B−b. A second application of that inequality gives ∫∣(A−a)(B−b)∣ dP≤∥A−a∥2∥B−b∥2<∞. Thus both the variance and covariance integrals above are well-defined.

If P=ρmN and the integrals are defined, these expectations equal ∫Aρ dmN by Integrating against a density agrees with integrating the product.

A macrostate map is a measurable map M:(ΓN,FN)→(Y,G). Its induced state on Y is the pushforward M∗P(B):=P(M−1(B)) for B∈G. A macrocell associated with a specified measurable cell B∈G is the measurable phase event CB:=M−1(B); its reference size is mN(CB)∈[0,∞]. A singleton fibre M−1({y}) is used as a macrocell only when {y}∈G. For a specified family C⊆G of cells, an entropy assignment means additional data S:C→[−∞,∞]; no particular functional of mN(CB) is stipulated here. Neither a cell's reference size nor a separately chosen entropy assignment is defined to be the expectation or variance of a microscopic observable.
