How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Edge homomorphisms of a first quadrant spectral sequence

Definition

Let a homological spectral sequence be first quadrant from page s≥2, with finite abutment data as in Abutment to a filtered object, normalized by F−1Hn=0 and FnHn=Hn for n≥0. By Degree reasons force stabilization in a bounded region the axis terms stabilize. The edge maps are the composites E0,ns↠E0,n∞≅F0Hn↪Hn, Hn↠Hn/Fn−1Hn≅En,0∞↪En,0s. The first surjection is obtained by composing the finitely many transition quotient maps on the vertical axis: every outgoing differential there lands at negative first coordinate. On the horizontal axis, every incoming source has second coordinate 1−r<0, so the transitions identify successive kernels as subobjects; their composite gives the second inclusion. Further stationary transitions do not change these maps.

For cohomological first-quadrant indexing, normalize F0Hn=Hn and Fn+1Hn=0. The analogous arrows are Esn,0→Hn through FnHn, and Hn→Es0,n through Hn/F1Hn. Neither the first whole-target map is necessarily epic nor the second monic: for example, in an abelian category with a supplied nonzero object M, with page terms fixed equal to M at (0,1) and (1,0), zero elsewhere and zero differentials, the abutment H1=M⊕M filtered by its first summand has edges the summand inclusion and the other summand projection. These respectively miss the second summand and kill the first.
