How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Single-species BGK relaxation operator
Definition
Adopt Countable Choice, denoted , as in the kinetic-density definition. Fix the particle mass in kilograms, Boltzmann constant in joules per kelvin, and velocity Lebesgue measure from the kinetic-density definition. Put and . Here is measured in metres per second, and is a number density in velocity space with units . For a finite-valued nonnegative measurable velocity density with finite absolute third moment , set . Where , set and ; then has units , has units , and has units kelvins. Define the admissible BGK input domain Fix a relaxation time measured in seconds. For , the temperature is strictly positive, has units , and the moment-matched Maxwellian and relaxation operator are defined by the following formulas; has the same units as : The displayed formula defines the single-species Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook (BGK) relaxation operator pointwise on , with in units of per second. The corresponding accelerated homogeneous model with dimensionless parameter is . Outside this item assigns no BGK operator. This is a prescribed relaxation model. It is distinct from the binary collision operator and does not by itself assert a derivation from microscopic mechanics or an inhomogeneous hydrodynamic limit.
