How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Elastic collision measure and weak collision operator

Definition

Each velocity is in R3 measured in metres per second, dv=λ3 is three-dimensional Lebesgue measure, and v∗=1 m s−1 is the fixed reference speed. The elastic collision set is Qel:={(v,w,v′,w′)∈R12:v+w=v′+w′, ∣v∣2+∣w∣2=∣v′∣2+∣w′∣2}, with its relative Borel sigma-algebra. A collision measure is a nonnegative countably additive measure ν on this set, invariant under particle exchange in either pair and under interchange of incoming and outgoing pairs. Symmetry is a model hypothesis; it does not follow merely from the conservation equations.

The collision model declares an input domain Dν contained in the finite-valued, positive, Lebesgue-measurable functions f:R3→(0,∞) for which each of the four coordinate evaluations f(v),f(w),f(v′),f(w′) on Qel is ν-measurable. For each f∈Dν, it supplies a chosen measurable locally integrable representative Qν(f)∈Lloc1(R3,dv). For finite-valued complex Lebesgue-measurable φ, set A:=f(v)f(w),B:=f(v′)f(w′),δφ:=φ(v)+φ(w)−φ(v′)−φ(w′). Let Tf be the class of those φ for which δφ is ν-measurable and both integrals ∫R3∣φ(v)Qν(f)(v)∣ dv,∫Qel∣(B−A)δφ∣ dν are finite. For each f∈Dν, the model declares a complex linear subspace Sf⊆Tf containing every compactly supported smooth complex-valued velocity test φ∈Cc∞(R3;C). Require the weak collision identity ∫R3φ(v)Qν(f)(v) dv=14∫Qel(B−A)δφ dν for every φ∈Sf. For the moment-balance results below, additionally require 1, v1,v2,v3, and ∣v∣2 to lie in Sf; for the entropy result additionally require log⁡(f/fref)∈Sf, where fref>0 is a constant reference density with the same units as f. Each required membership includes the stated measurability and absolute-convergence conditions. The collision measure and weak identity are adopted mathematical model data; they do not assert a microscopic derivation or that every density and measure admit such an operator. In a physical application, normalize the units of ν so Qν(f) has units of f per second; no specific cross-section or measured collision rate is fixed here.
