How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Positive periodic convolution filter and subfilter stress
Definition
Assume the Axiom of Countable Choice for the normalized periodic torus convention used here. Let and let be a period length. Put , with normalized Haar measure ; writing and identifies this normalized measure with normalized Haar measure on , the periodic Fourier convention fixed in the referenced Fourier-Sobolev definition. Let be smooth, vanish outside a compact subset of , and satisfy . For , define the periodized kernel
For a field with finitely many real components, each smooth and -periodic, define its filtered field by
Here is the volume measure on one period cell. For any smooth periodic vector field , define the subfilter stress and transfer by
where , , and . We call the forward-transfer scalar by sign convention: , so exactly when this stress-gradient contraction is negative. This convention does not assert an evolution equation, an energy balance, or a sign for . With length in metres and time in seconds, have units m, has units m s, has units m, has units m s, and has units m s. The nonnegative-kernel hypothesis is part of this definition; no positivity or transfer-sign property is assigned to signed kernels or sharp spectral cutoffs.
