How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Subextremal Kerr exterior in length coordinates
A mathematical Lorentzian metric datum on the subextremal exterior domain; it asserts no astrophysical realization or observational claim.
Definition
Assume for the tangent-bundle smooth structure of the Lorentzian conventions.
Let and satisfy , and put .
Let carry the product smooth structure, where has its usual smooth structure and round metric . Let be the third projection, let be the smooth rotation field on generated by , and put and . Let be the first and second coordinate functions on , and let be the third Euclidean coordinate on the sphere factor. Define the global smooth functions
On the axis-avoiding polar coordinate domain, let and regard as the circle-valued azimuth in . Each choice of an open real interval of length less than lifting gives an ordinary local chart. In any such chart, , , , and .
Define the symmetric covariant -tensor globally on by
On any such local polar chart, its Boyer-Lindquist line element is
The displayed cross term is . This definition makes no nondegeneracy or signature claim; Lorentzian signature and a time orientation are established separately.

Remarks
The Boyer-Lindquist chart excludes the rotation axis, while the global tensor definition uses the smooth round metric and the smooth rotation field on . The domain has ; the hypersurface is not part of this definition and is included only after the regular ingoing extension is constructed.
The Lorentzian signature and time-orientation properties are proved by Lorentzian signature and time orientation of the Kerr exterior datum ↗, not assumed by this tensor definition.
The smooth tangent-bundle convention assumes only countable choice ; no stronger choice principle is used.
The parameters correspond to and when a physical interpretation is adopted. No claim that this datum describes a measured rotating object is made.
