How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Gysin pushforward for an oriented zero section

Definition

Assume AC. Let ξ be an R-oriented rank-n numerable vector bundle over a CW complex, or over a paracompact Hausdorff base of CW type. For its zero section define s!:Hk(B;R)⟶Hk+n(D(ξ);R);s!(a)=j∗(π∗a⌣uξ), where j∗ is the relative-to-absolute map. This is the Gysin pushforward of the oriented zero section.

The radial homotopy v↦(1−t)v retracts D(ξ) to s(B), so s∗ identifies the target with Hk+n(B;R). Under that identification, cup-product naturality and the Euler definition give s∗s!(a)=a⌣s∗j∗uξ=a⌣eTh(ξ).

For rank zero, D(ξ)=B, S(ξ)=∅, and the supplied Thom class is its orientation unit o∈H0(B;R). Thus s!(a)=a⌣o and e=o, by the displayed composite. This is an isomorphism with inverse multiplication by o−1, and is the identity for the standard unit orientation o=1. Empty bases and the zero ring give the unique zero maps. At k=0 the unit maps to j∗u; negative-degree sources are zero. Both radial endpoints, the zero section, identity bundle maps, and zero inputs are included. The displayed construction is choice-free after uξ is supplied; AC is inherited only from the general existence theorem.
