How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Pure-point graded trace-class index data
Definition
A pure-point graded trace-class index datum consists of a complex Hilbert space , its grading operator equal to on and on , and a densely defined self-adjoint operator such that is invariant under and for every . Set on and require this composition operator to be nonnegative and self-adjoint. Assume has the orthogonal pure-point decomposition
where is a supplied countable set of distinct eigenvalues, are finite-dimensional, and are finite-dimensional eigenspaces contained in . Supply orthonormal bases of these subspaces whose union is a Hilbert basis of compatible with energy and parity. Assume Countable Choice as used by the imported Hilbert-space, adjoint and trace-class definitions. The local positive-energy-pairing lemma derives, rather than assumes, the unitary map and equality of their finite dimensions.
For each real , a bounded diagonal operator is supplied as part of the data, with on and on . Require to be trace class for every ; it is denoted . Its graded heat supertrace, called the Witten index at parameter in this data class, is
where each family sum is in the finite-subset sense for absolutely summable scalar families. The supplied trace-class Hilbert-basis definition makes these sums absolutely convergent. Here is only a positive real mathematical parameter and has no assigned physical units or temperature interpretation. The index datum is discrete: it contains no continuous spectral subspace or continuum regularization prescription, and makes no physical model identification.
