How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Compactly supported polynomial microcausal functionals
Definition
Let be an oriented, time-oriented, globally hyperbolic smooth Lorentzian -manifold without boundary, , with signature . A cotangent vector is future or past causal when its metric dual belongs to the corresponding closed causal tangent cone. For , let consist of tuples such that every is either zero or future causal for , respectively past causal for , and the total tuple is nonzero. The wavefront set used below is the set of nonzero cotangent tuples where compactly localized Fourier transforms fail rapid decay in every conic neighborhood.
A compactly supported polynomial functional is a finite expression where , is symmetric under permutations of its variables, is the metric density fixed by the Lorentzian metric, and the pairing is defined by inserting a compactly supported cutoff equal to one near in the smooth factor. Its th functional derivative is specified, for a test density on , by where a compactly supported cutoff equal to one near is inserted in the smooth factors. Expanding the finite polynomial shows that this kernel represents the directional derivative in smooth compactly supported real directions. The functional is microcausal when for every and every . Write for this class, including constants.
