How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Finite completely positive trace-preserving maps
Definition
Let be integers, let and with their standard inner products, and write and for the complex linear maps on these spaces. A matrix is positive semidefinite, written , when it is Hermitian and for every vector . The finite spectral convention in Finite matrix spectral and state calculus gives positive matrices their orthonormal eigenbases and positive square roots.
A positive map is a complex-linear map such that whenever . For each integer , identify with matrices on in the ordered product basis. The map is completely positive when is positive for every such , where is the identity map on .
The map is trace-preserving when for every . A finite quantum channel is a complex-linear map that is both completely positive and trace-preserving, abbreviated CPTP. Unitality, , is a separate condition and is not part of this definition.
This is a mathematical definition. A physical preparation, measurement, or open-system model must separately identify when one of these maps represents a physical transformation.
