How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Relative Proj of a graded quasi-coherent algebra
Definition
Assume the Axiom of Choice as inherited from the affine-local Proj construction (The Axiom of Choice). Let be a scheme and let be a quasi-coherent graded -algebra (Quasi-coherent module on a scheme): each is a quasi-coherent -module and the multiplication maps are -linear. No finite generation of over is assumed.
Construction. For an affine open put , a graded -algebra, and let be its Proj with its scheme structure (Proj carries a scheme structure). For affine opens the canonical isomorphisms of Affine-local graded algebras glue their Proj charts are compatible with inclusions and satisfy the triple-overlap cocycle, so the schemes glue along the affine opens of to a scheme equipped with the open immersions identifying with the restriction to . The relative twists are the -modules , , obtained by gluing, over each affine open with its coordinates , the sheaves on of Twisting sheaf on Proj; the gluing is compatible for the following reason. Write . The degreewise restriction calculation in Affine-local graded algebras glue their Proj charts gives , not an identification with itself. For a homogeneous , localisation and scalar extension give To check this formula, first localise the graded ring: the universal properties identify with by the displayed fractions. Taking degree gives the stated shifted degree-zero module isomorphism, because tensor product distributes over homogeneous direct sums. The restriction of the associated module sheaf to the affine open is associated to this scalar-extended module by An associated sheaf restricts to an associated sheaf on an affine open: tensoring over with is tensoring over with . These identifications commute with further localisation and successive restriction, since each sends a fraction to the same fraction with its coefficients restricted. They therefore agree on overlaps and satisfy the triple cocycle, so the twists glue. No invertibility of the twists is needed.
Structural morphism. On the ring acts on each through the structure map , so carries a canonical morphism induced on each chart by the structure map . These morphisms are compatible with the identifications and glue to a morphism called the structural morphism, through which is a scheme over (Schemes and morphisms over a base).
Absolute case. If is affine and for a graded -algebra , then and is the structural morphism of the absolute Proj; in particular by Projective space is Proj of a polynomial ring.
Remarks
- No finiteness. Existence of uses only quasi-coherence of the graded pieces and the affine-local Proj construction; no finite generation is required. If, on each affine open of the base, is generated by over , all relative twists are invertible by Invertible twists for degree-one generated rings applied on those affine-base restrictions. This degree-one generation hypothesis does not require finitely many generators and is not part of this definition.
- Choice. The Axiom of Choice is inherited from the affine Proj construction and the affine-local gluing; the definition itself selects no data beyond that interface.
