How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Temporal chart with lapse, shift and positive slice metric
Local lapse-shift chart and observer split for particle models; no global foliation or empirical claim is made.
Definition
Assume countable choice ACω, as in The Axiom of Countable Choice (), for the smooth cotangent-bundle carrier convention used by this page; no full Axiom of Choice is assumed.
Let be a smooth, time-oriented Lorentzian four-manifold of signature , with the geometric meaning fixed by Smooth time-oriented Lorentzian four-manifolds: the geometric objects of the model. Here denotes the future-cone field called in that definition. Let be a nonempty open interval, let be open, and let be open. A temporal product chart is a smooth diffeomorphism . Its coordinate functions are the four component functions of . Spatial indices range over , spacetime indices range over , and repeated upper/lower indices are summed. We require and each to have length units in the physical interpretation.
The chart has lapse-shift data when , , and are smooth, , and the matrix is positive definite at each point, with
Write for the inverse matrix. The normal field is
Direct contraction gives ; require that is future-directed in the supplied time orientation. This field of observers is distinct from the coordinate vector , which may be spacelike. The coefficients are dimensionless when all four coordinates are in metres. This definition is local to the specified product chart; it asserts no global temporal foliation.
