How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Isentropic compressibility on a valid local chart

Physical scope

Finite derivative response on a local C2 positive-temperature simple-compressible energy chart at fixed composition; no value or sign is asserted where the inverse chart fails.

Definition

Fix a constitution c, a positive-temperature local energy chart with entropy coordinate s and physical volume V>0, and fixed amounts n=(n1,…,nr). The energy representation and pressure on this chart are those of Local energy representation and thermodynamic conjugates and the response-chart conventions are those of Thermodynamic response functions on valid local charts. Where (s,V,n)↦(s,p,n) has a C1 local inverse, define the isentropic compressibility of the whole system by

κS:=−1V(∂V∂p)s,n.

The entropy s is held fixed, as are all amounts nj. The local energy representation gives p=−(∂U/∂V)s,n (Local energy representation and thermodynamic conjugates). Since U is in joules and V in m3, the relation J m−3=Pa in SI quantities and unit conventions gives p in Pa, and hence κS in Pa−1. This definition asserts no sign, finiteness, or existence outside the specified inverse chart; in particular it does not assign a value at a singular or critical response point.
