How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Stable regularly tempered classical positional preparation
Nonrelativistic classical point-particle models whose thermodynamic claims concern positions and pair interactions; kinetic momentum variables are outside this definition.
Definition
Fix an integer spatial dimension , a reference length measured in metres, and a bounded Lebesgue-measurable region with dimensionless volume . Its physical region is . The coordinate is dimensionless and represents physical position . Use the Euclidean norm and the maximum norm . A finite positional configuration of classical point particles in is an unordered simple set ; simple means that no point is repeated. Particle number is a dimensionless nonnegative integer. When , the physical number density corresponding to the dimensionless density is , in ; no density is assigned when .
A pair potential is an even measurable function , where is the interaction energy in joules at physical displacement and evenness means . Set and . Whenever is Borel measurable, it is the dimensionless numerical potential used by Superstable regular pair interactions and configurational ensemble notation. For a labelled representative of , define the positional pair energy If any pair is forbidden by the potential, its energy and hence are . This model contains no kinetic energy, internal molecular coordinates, quantum exchange terms, or external field.
The interaction is stable if there is a constant , measured in joules, such that for every finite simple configuration. It has a regular integrable tail if there are and a nonnegative nonincreasing measurable function , measured in joules, such that for and A stable potential with this tail condition is the stable regularly tempered class used for the free-cube results on this page. Superstability and a positive divergent core are stronger, separate hypotheses and are not implied by stability.
At temperature measured in kelvins, use the exact SI Boltzmann constant of SI quantities and unit conventions and write in joules inverse. Thus is dimensionless. Pass the dimensionless numerical inverse temperature and numerical energy to the mathematical partition definitions of Superstable regular pair interactions and configurational ensemble notation; for finite energies, . For the periodic energy defined below, use the same conversion . Infinite-energy configurations receive zero positive-temperature weight without evaluating . The activity is dimensionless relative to the reference intensity . A free-wall finite-volume model contains only positions in and uses above.
For periodic boundary conditions, identify a cubic cell of side in these dimensionless coordinates with the torus . For its half-open representative and a finite simple configuration , define the periodic continuation and Here the inner sum omits only the identical point ; it includes images of the same particle in other cells. The factor removes double counting of ordered representatives of each periodic pair. For any fixed and finite , the image shell has terms and, outside finitely many , . Monotonicity and the finite weighted tail integral imply , so the far-image tail is absolutely convergent. The remaining near-image set is finite; a term makes , and otherwise the finite near terms plus the absolutely convergent tail define the sum. Translating a centered half-open cell to preserves every displacement and this energy. Free-wall and periodic preparations are distinct boundary conditions. All limits on this page concern positional configurations and do not by themselves include a momentum integral or a full phase-space energy shell.
