How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Vacuum Rabi oscillation

Physical scope

A conditional single-excitation calculation in the ideal closed Jaynes–Cummings two-level, one-mode rotating-wave model. It predicts periodic excitation transfer and revival within that model, not irreversible decay or continuum spontaneous emission. No measured oscillation or apparatus record is asserted.

Example

In the resonant Jaynes–Cummings model (ω0=ω), prepare the atom and field in ∣e,0⟩ and let the ideal model evolve for time τ≥0. The assigned excited-state PVM then gives excitation probability cos⁡2(gτ). If g≠0, the population returns to one at τ=kπ/∣g∣, k∈N0; if g=0, it remains one. This is a periodic model prediction, not irreversible spontaneous decay or a reported observation.

Facts & Assumptions

Given: Resonance ω0=ω>0, real g, ℏ>0, time τ≥0, initial state ∣e,0⟩, and the closed Jaynes–Cummings model.

[A1]

The adopted single-mode, two-level rotating-wave model and its AC/CC assumptions are those of Jaynes–Cummings invariant blocks and Rabi frequency; no continuum bath or experiment is included.

[A2]

Assume AC and ACω as mathematical premises carried by the model and Fock-domain suppliers. Adopt the isolated autonomous dynamics postulate P4 for the self-adjoint Hamiltonian supplied by the Jaynes–Cummings theorem; this is a model assumption, not an empirical claim (The Axiom of Choice, The Axiom of Countable Choice (ACω), Autonomous dynamics postulate P4: self-adjoint generators and unitary evolution, Assigned energy observable, unitary flow and the two pictures of autonomous evolution).

[F1]

On resonance, the invariant block K0=span⁡{∣e,0⟩,∣g,1⟩} has matrix H0=ℏω2I+ℏgσx in that ordered orthonormal basis, where σx=(0110) (Jaynes–Cummings invariant blocks and Rabi frequency).

[F2]

For the self-adjoint assigned energy HJC, P4 defines the model evolution on all states by U(τ)=exp⁡(−iτHJC/ℏ) through its spectral calculus (Autonomous dynamics postulate P4: self-adjoint generators and unitary evolution, Assigned energy observable, unitary flow and the two pictures of autonomous evolution).

[F3]

For the excited-state projection Pe=∣e⟩⟨e∣⊗I, the assigned probability of its outcome in a unit state ψ is ∥Peψ∥2 (Declared ideal measurements and instruments of the framework).

Proof

1.1F1algebra

Define ∣+⟩=(∣e,0⟩+∣g,1⟩)/2 and ∣−⟩=(∣e,0⟩−∣g,1⟩)/2. The block matrix in [F1] gives HJC∣+⟩=ℏ(ω/2+g)∣+⟩ and HJC∣−⟩=ℏ(ω/2−g)∣−⟩. Thus these orthonormal vectors are global eigenvectors of the self-adjoint Hamiltonian, including when g=0.

2.1A2F2step 1.1algebra

Since ∣e,0⟩=(∣+⟩+∣−⟩)/2, P4 [F2] evolves it to e−iωτ/2(cos⁡(gτ)∣e,0⟩−isin⁡(gτ)∣g,1⟩) by applying the spectral exponential to the two eigenvectors from step 1.1.

3.1A1F3step 2.1algebra∎

The vectors ∣e,0⟩ and ∣g,1⟩ are orthogonal, so the squared norm of the excited projection of the state in step 2.1 is cos⁡2(gτ). The PVM rule [F3] makes this the assigned excited-state probability. If g≠0, it returns to one at τ=kπ/∣g∣ for k∈N0; if g=0, it stays one for every τ. This periodicity is a model deduction, not irreversible decay or an experimental observation.
