How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Charge-one BPST instanton on the round four-sphere

Example

Assume full Axiom of Choice. Let B5={z∈R5:∣z∣≤1} and S4=∂B5={z∈R5:∣z∣=1} have the Euclidean induced unit round metric gX. Put p∞=(0,0,0,0,−1) and p0=(0,0,0,0,1), and set UN=S4∖{p∞} and US=S4∖{p0}. Define the north chart by

κN:R4⟶S4∖{p∞},κN(x)=(2x1+∣x∣2,1−∣x∣21+∣x∣2),

and the south chart by

κS:R4⟶S4∖{p0},κS(y)=(2y1+∣y∣2,∣y∣2−11+∣y∣2).

Write x=(x1,x2,x3,x4) and y=(y1,y2,y3,y4) for the inverse chart coordinates, so κN(0)=p0, r2=∣x∣2=∑μ=14(xμ)2, and on the overlap y=x/r2. The north coordinates have dx1∧dx2∧dx3∧dx4>0. The metrics in these charts are respectively 4(1+r2)−2∑μ=14(dxμ)2 and 4(1+∣y∣2)−2∑μ=14(dyμ)2.

Define SU(2)={U∈M2(C):U∗U=I,det⁡U=1}. Write ϵ123=1 and let

σ1=(0110),σ2=(0−ii0),σ3=(100−1),Ta=−i2σa.

The Ta are traceless anti-Hermitian generators. Set B(X,Y)=−tr⁡2(XY). Define antisymmetric symbols by ηaij=ϵaij, ηai4=δai, ηˉaij=−ϵaij, and ηˉai4=δai for spatial indices i,j∈{1,2,3}, where δai is the Kronecker delta; extend them antisymmetrically in the last two indices. For a scale parameter ρ>0, define u(x)=(x4I−ixjσj)/r∈SU(2) on UN∩US. Form the quotient of the two trivial right SU(2)-bundles by identifying (x,h)S∼(x,u(x)−1h)N for each x∈UN∩US and h∈SU(2), so its local sections satisfy sS=sNu−1. Take the set of admitted bundle sectors to be the singleton containing the isomorphism class of this glued bundle, and take the representation family to be the singleton defining representation on C2. Define the local connection potentials by

AN=2ηaμνxνr2+ρ2Ta dxμ,AS=−2ρ2ηˉaμνyν1+ρ2∣y∣2Ta dyμ.

On the overlap these obey AS=Ad⁡uAN+u d(u−1), so they define a smooth principal connection on the glued bundle. Let F be its global curvature, with chart representatives FN and FS. In the north chart its curvature, written FN=12FμνNdxμ∧dxν, has components

FμνN=−4ρ2(r2+ρ2)2ηaμνTa.

Let ∗gX be the Hodge star characterized on two-forms by α∧∗gXβ=⟨α,β⟩gX dvol⁡X, acting componentwise on the Lie-algebra coefficients. This curvature is self-dual, meaning FN=∗gXFN. With B as fixed above, define the charge by qB=(8π2)−1∫S4B(F∧F) and, for any real g>0, define the action by SB(g)=g−2∫S4B(F∧∗gXF). Then qB=1, SB(g)=8π2/g2<∞, and the action saturates the self-dual bound. This is one explicit Belavin–Polyakov–Schwartz–Tyupkin (BPST) charge-one connection; no uniqueness or moduli classification is asserted.

[F1]

The explicit BPST proposition establishes precisely the displayed connection, smoothness, curvature, self-duality, charge and action for every ρ>0 and g>0. Explicit charge-one BPST connection on the round four-sphere

Verification

1.1givenF1

Apply [F1] with the given ρ>0 and g>0, round metric, north-chart orientation, Pauli matrices, transition u−1 and trace form B=−tr⁡2. These are exactly the hypotheses and explicit formulas of the proposition, so it applies to the displayed local data.

2.1F1step 1.1∎

Its conclusions give every asserted property, including the global smooth connection, displayed curvature, self-duality, qB=1 and SB(g)=8π2/g2. No classification follows.
