How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Worked longitudinal Doppler shift at beta = 3/5
Worked longitudinal Doppler computation of the ideal plane-wave model at relative speed (3/5)c in the two propagation directions along the boost axis. Conditional on the model; no measurement, statistical inference or empirical claim.
Example
Worked example in the model of sr-light-and-doppler, on the page sr-light-and-doppler-examples. Let and be inertial charts with , , so that and the frame moves with velocity relative to . Let an ideal plane wave have frame- data with and (a) , (b) . Then Doppler shift and aberration for an ideal plane wave between inertial descriptions gives:
(a) , , and : an observer at rest in moving in the direction of propagation reads half the frequency and twice the wavelength.
(b) , , and : an observer at rest in moving opposite to the propagation direction reads twice the frequency and half the wavelength.
In both cases and , in agreement with the general theorem; the verification uses only the exact rational values , and . Scope: a conditional computation in the ideal plane-wave model; no measurement is performed and no empirical claim is made.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: Inertial charts with , ; an ideal plane wave with frame- data , , , and .
Adopted ideal plane-wave model: one ideal monochromatic plane wave with future null wave covector; the rest observers of and read the frequencies and (Adopted ideal plane-wave and frequency-reading model, Null wave covectors, frame frequency data and the observer frequency of an ideal plane wave).
For the chart pair of the Given the theorem gives , , , , and in the axis case the direction formulas , , (Doppler shift and aberration for an ideal plane wave between inertial descriptions, clauses (i) and (ii)).
Longitudinal clause: for the factor is and for it is ; here (Doppler shift and aberration for an ideal plane wave between inertial descriptions, clause (iii)).
, so for : ; and the boost transformation of the frame data is the one of Boost transformation of a future null wave covector and of its frame data (The passive Lorentz boost with parameter beta).
Verification
Setup. Here , and by [L3]; both witness directions have , so the wave is in the model [A1].
Case (a), . Then , so [L1] gives and hence and ; the axis formulas of [L1] with , , give and , so ; the frequency factor agrees with the longitudinal clause [L2], , since .
Case (b), . Then , so [L1] gives , and ; the axis formulas of [L1] with , give and , so ; the frequency factor agrees with the longitudinal clause [L2], , since . In both cases and as the theorem asserts. This proves (a) and (b) by exact rational arithmetic; the computation is conditional on the ideal plane-wave model, no measurement is performed and no empirical claim is made; no choice principle is used.
