How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Worked example: four-velocity and four-acceleration of uniform circular motion
Example
Worked computation. In an inertial chart with let , and let be real with . Here are the everywhere-convergent real power-series functions of Sine and cosine defined by their real power series; their derivatives are and (The derivatives of sine and cosine are cosine and minus sine), and (Parity and the Pythagorean identity for sine and cosine). For , consider the coordinate worldline , parametrized by coordinate time: uniform circular motion in the first two spatial coordinates. Then has , so and the proper-time factor is with ; the four-velocity is . Since is constant, is constant; the coordinate acceleration is , with and . By clause (e) of Norms of four-velocity and four-acceleration, and the observer rest-space decomposition the four-acceleration is , so , and . Its magnitude is ; for it is spacelike exactly when , while is the static limit with , and . Numerical specialization: if , then and the magnitude of the four-acceleration is .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: An inertial chart with , reals , and with , and the worldline with coordinates .
Chart and spatial structure (Inertial frames and inertial charts of the affine Minkowski model, The Euclidean spatial structure and cross product of an inertial frame): in the chart , the spatial part carries the Euclidean norm and inner product .
Curves (Curves, regular causal curves and future timelike worldlines in affine Minkowski space, Timelike, null, spacelike and causal vectors of a Lorentz vector space): is with tangent and is a future timelike worldline exactly when with future.
Proper time and four-velocity (Proper time along a future timelike worldline, Four-velocity and four-acceleration of a future timelike worldline): , , and when is .
Coordinate form of the decomposition (Norms of four-velocity and four-acceleration, and the observer rest-space decomposition, clause (e)): for a future timelike worldline with coordinates , , , one has , with , , , and , vanishing exactly when .
Bilinearity and the diagonal form (Lorentz forms of inertia (3,1,0) on a 4-dimensional real vector space): is bilinear, so is computed from the chart matrix in [L1].
Trigonometric calculus: are defined on all of by their convergent power series (Sine and cosine defined by their real power series), with , and values , (The derivatives of sine and cosine are cosine and minus sine). The identity holds for every real (Parity and the Pythagorean identity for sine and cosine). The chain rule (The chain rule, in one line from Carathéodory: if is differentiable at and is differentiable at , then is differentiable at with ) gives and ; iterating these identities makes the coordinate path .
Verification
The difference quotients of the first coordinate give ; those of the spatial coordinates give , so ; then and, by [L1], by the hypothesis , with future; hence is a future timelike worldline by [L2].
By [L3], with , and .
The spatial path is , with and ; hence and .
Since is constant, is constant and with ; clause (e) of [L4] with gives , so , and ; also gives , with equality if and only if , i.e. if and only if (since ); the magnitude of the four-acceleration is then .
At the worldline is , the static limit: , , and , so the clock is at rest in the chart and its acceleration vanishes; for the four-acceleration is spacelike with .
Numerical specialization: if , then and the magnitude of the four-acceleration is , with the dimensions of acceleration because has units m/s when is an angular rate.
Remarks
-
The zero-frequency case is retained deliberately. At the clock is static and its four-acceleration vanishes; the acceleration square is nonnegative always and positive exactly for nonzero when .
-
Centripetal acceleration is orthogonal to the velocity. The identity is what forces and keeps the four-acceleration purely spatial; it reflects the constant speed of the motion and is not an additional dynamical assumption.
