How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Worked instance of the operational vocabulary: an illustrative bounded record for the longitudinal Doppler ratio and its parameter window
Worked arithmetic instance inside the flat special-relativity framework: it instantiates the operational vocabulary on the framework's own longitudinal Doppler prediction with a declared, explicitly illustrative record. It asserts no apparatus, no measurement, no calibration correctness, no sampling model, no statistical inference and no empirical support or refutation of the Doppler theorem or of any postulate.
Example
Adopt the SI conventions of SI units and coordinate conventions of the special-relativity framework, the vocabulary of Operational model, data, calibration and uncertainty vocabulary of the experiment interface and the ideal plane-wave model of Adopted ideal plane-wave and frequency-reading model. Consider the longitudinal configuration of Doppler shift and aberration for an ideal plane wave between inertial descriptions: inertial charts and whose transition is for a real , where is the passive boost of The passive Lorentz boost with parameter beta, so that the frame moves with velocity relative to ; an ideal emitter history, meaning the rest worldline , , with length parameter , future unit tangent and proper-time function based at (no emission dynamics is stipulated); an ideal plane wave whose frame- data are with angular frequency and ; and the rest observer of , whose four-velocity is for the future unit timelike vector constructed below. By clauses (i) and (ii) of that theorem this observer reads with , so the Doppler ratio is
the rational power being that of Rational powers of a positive base.
(a) Let , , let be the run description comprising the inertial charts and , the emitter's straight rest curve, the future null wave covector with frame- data and its affine phase, its proper-time function , and the observer's rest vector with reception event , and let be as displayed. Then is an operational model for the dimensionless ratio in the sense of clause (b) of Operational model, data, calibration and uncertainty vocabulary of the experiment interface: condition holds with the prediction supplied by the cited Doppler theorem, and . The map is strictly decreasing on , and for every real there is exactly one with , namely
consequently is a strictly decreasing bijection of onto .
(b) Let and be real, so that , and let be the declared one-point record with , , and condition annotation "longitudinal Doppler ratio for observer velocity , with signed and wave propagation direction " in the sense of clause (c) of the vocabulary. Then the set of parameters consistent with and ,
equals the closed interval ; it is nonempty, and every element of it satisfies the declared bound of . If , it is the singleton . If , its endpoints are strictly ordered and its exact positive length is
Thus the strict inequality between the record endpoints and the positive-length conclusion apply exactly when the declared uncertainty is positive. The condition annotation fixes collinearity and permits either sign of the velocity, including rest at : means motion along the propagation direction, means motion opposite to it. Every parameter in is nonnegative exactly when , and every parameter is strictly positive exactly when .
(c) Illustrative instance (declared illustrative values, not a measurement report): and . Then and , and , an interval of exact length in , whose endpoints satisfy and .
(d) Scope. Every number in (c) is a declared illustrative value supplied to instantiate the vocabulary's clauses and their arithmetic; the example asserts no apparatus, no calibration correctness, no measurement, no sampling model, no statistical inference and no empirical support or refutation of the Doppler theorem or of any postulate.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: An inertial frame of the oriented time-oriented affine Minkowski space with its inertial chart , a real number , real numbers and , and the illustrative one-point record with , , and annotation "longitudinal Doppler ratio for observer velocity , with signed and wave propagation direction ".
The experimental-interface vocabulary: an operational model is a tuple with nonempty, nonempty, surjective, assigning run descriptions and a prediction map whose components are required, by the declared interpretation , to be numbers the framework assigns to with every intermediate quantity, frame, event, sign and unit declared; a data record declares that each value lies in the closed box in the declared units (Operational model, data, calibration and uncertainty vocabulary of the experiment interface).
Doppler theorem clauses (i) and (ii): for inertial charts whose transition is with , , the same future null wave covector with frame- data has frame- data with , where ; and the rest observers of and , of four-velocities and , read the angular frequencies and (Doppler shift and aberration for an ideal plane wave between inertial descriptions).
Observer angular frequency and wave data: the observer of four-velocity , with and future, reads in the SI convention ; a future null wave covector has frame components with and (Null wave covectors, frame frequency data and the observer frequency of an ideal plane wave).
For a covector , the affine phase has differential by Affine phase functions and wave covectors on affine Minkowski space (a). Frame-data lemma clauses (a),(b),(e): for a future null wave covector in a frame, and ; conversely, a covector whose frame components are with and is a future null wave covector (Frame data of a future null wave covector: the unique pair with ).
Passive boost: for with the map is defined in an inertial frame's coordinates by and for , with the identity, so that in the axis case one has , (The passive Lorentz boost with parameter beta); it is a proper orthochronous Lorentz map, , and (The passive boost is a proper orthochronous Lorentz map with inverse B(-beta)).
The worldline and proper-time definitions are Curves, regular causal curves and future timelike worldlines in affine Minkowski space and Proper time along a future timelike worldline; in particular a curve with everywhere future timelike derivative is a worldline and its proper time is the integral of . Inertial frame and chart: an inertial frame consists of an event and an ordered basis of that is -orthonormal, future and positively oriented; its chart is with (Inertial frames and inertial charts of the affine Minkowski model).
Adopted ideal plane-wave model: an ideal monochromatic light wave in vacuum is modeled in any inertial chart by a dimensionless affine phase with future null wave covector, and an ideal observer of four-velocity receiving this wave reads the frequency (Adopted ideal plane-wave and frequency-reading model).
SI conventions: in every inertial chart with in metres per second, spatial coordinates in metres, and the matrix of equal to (SI units and coordinate conventions of the special-relativity framework).
Rational powers and their laws: for and , and , , , (Rational powers of a positive base, Laws of rational exponents).
Strict monotonicity in the base: for rational the map is strictly increasing on the positive reals (Monotonicity of and of claim 2); and in an ordered field, if then if and only if (Sign rules for products and monotonicity of multiplication claim 4).
Verification
Fix and let be the covector whose frame- components are , so and with ; by [F4] the covector is a future null wave covector with frame- data ; equip it with the affine phase , whose differential is . For each real put and ; by [F5] the map is proper orthochronous with inverse , and [F5] applied to gives that also preserves , the future cone and the orientation, so is again -orthonormal, future and positively oriented and is an inertial frame by [F6], with chart because gives . The transition is with parameter of modulus , so [F2] clause (i) with gives the frame- data of the same covector with and , this being the reading of the rest observer of by clause (ii); and by [F8], the positive square root. Hence the dimensionless ratio equals for every .
The map is strictly decreasing on : for the difference of the two radicands is , since the numerator and both denominator factors are positive by [F9], and applying the strictly increasing map of [F9] to the two positive radicands gives .
For every real the equation is equivalent to , because is injective on positives and by [F8]; solving, , which lies in because and ; and again by [F8]. Thus is a strictly decreasing bijection of onto with inverse , and is itself strictly decreasing on .
Let , , and let comprise the frames and with their charts, the real boost parameter , the wave covector with its affine phase, the worldline , , with proper time , and the observer vector with reception event ; the worldline is , its derivative is the future unit vector , and the proper-time integral is ; then with the map of step 1.1 is an operational model in the sense of [F1] with , because each component of is assigned to by [F2] clauses (i) and (ii) under the adopted idealization [A1], with the frame, sign and unit conventions declared, so condition holds. This is the model claimed in part (a) of the Example.
Since is strictly decreasing with inverse by steps 1.2 and 1.3, holds if and only if ; the set is nonempty because puts in the range of , and every element of it satisfies the declared bound of the record because its prediction lies in the declared closed interval, so as claimed in part (b). For the two endpoints run together and by step 1.3, the singleton claimed; for we have and strict decrease of in step 1.3 gives the strict endpoint order , with length , where the numerator identity is algebra and the final sign uses , and the positivity of the two denominator factors by [F9]. For , the positive denominator in shows that is positive, zero or negative according as , or ; because is the minimum of , the whole consistency interval is nonnegative exactly when and strictly positive exactly when . These are precisely the sign qualifications in part (b); no sign restriction is imposed by its signed-velocity annotation.
For the illustrative values and we have and , so by step 1.3 and , both in , and , ; the consistency set is by step 2.2, and its length is by step 2.2, using . This is exact rational arithmetic on declared illustrative values; no measurement, probability model, sampling assumption or statistical inference is used.
